Through regular meetings, special events, day trips, sleepovers, camps and holidays, Brownies learn new hobbies, play music, explore other cultures and get adventurous outdoors. As well as trying activities in their meetings, girls choose from interest badges related to things they want to know more about. All Brownies are sure to try new things and take on a broad range of challenges as they explore the topics that sit within our six programme themes - Know Myself, Express Myself, Be Well, Have Adventures, Take Action and Skills For My Future.
Starting Brownies
In their regular meetings, girls will try new things – they can work in groups on skills builder activities like Live smart or Network and have fun all together with unit meeting activities. They work towards interest badges in their own time, choosing topics and skills they are interested in and exploring everything from languages to space. Brownies can feel proud of their achievements with awards for each theme and work towards the Brownie Gold award – the highest award a Brownie can get!
Parents/carers will complete an initial enquiry online through a dedicated area of the Girlguiding website by clicking the Join Us link below. Your postcode will generate a geomap of the area and a list will appear of the units nearest where you stay. If you require your child to attend a unit in a different area (e.g. near a grandparent, child minder), then you can generate this postcode to find a unit. You can choose up to three units. Your enquiry is stored on the system and then sent to the first Unit requested. An email is sent to the members of the Unit team to inform them that there has been an enquiry and asking them to log onto Join Us and pick up a message. Your enquiry will be responded to within 21 days.
When you (parent/carer) have completed the enquiry form and submitted it online, you will get a “thank-you for your enquiry” screen which you can chose to print or have sent in an email. The screen will provide then provide you with some key information including timescales and confirmation of what information you have submitted. You will be advised that “a leader will be in touch by 21 days.” If there are spaces available then the leader will contact you inviting your daughter to a meeting. If your daughter chooses to stay in the Unit, the leader will ensure that the “Welcome to Guiding” forms are completed to get all the relevant information on your daughter, i.e. additional needs, allergies, gift aid and photographs.
