Rainbows learn by doing – they get their hands dirty, do sports, arts and crafts and play games. Being a Rainbow is all about having the space to try new things. Through taking part in a range of different activities with girls their own age, Rainbows develop self-confidence and make lots of new friends.
The Rainbow activity programme
Rainbows learn and grow through a programme of age-appropriate activities, trips and adventures - both in their regular meetings and at special events. They can work towards interest badges, where they can learn about everything from recycling to storytelling and start their skills builder journey, developing core skills and trying new things like camping, leadership and first aid. There are even awards they can earn, like the Rainbow Gold award and the six Theme awards, that show their commitment and encourage pride in their achievements. Rainbows are supported by a group of highly-trained, inspirational leaders to explore, challenge themselves and have fun.
Parents/carers will complete an initial enquiry online through a dedicated area of the Girlguiding website by clicking the Join Us link below. Your postcode will generate a geomap of the area and a list will appear of the units nearest where you stay. If you require your child to attend a unit in a different area (e.g., near a grandparent, childminder), then you can generate this postcode to find a unit. You can choose up to three units. Your enquiry is stored on the system and then sent to the first Unit requested. An email is sent to the members of the Unit team to inform them that there has been an enquiry and asking them to log onto Join Us and pick up a message. Your enquiry will be responded to within 21 days.
When you (parent/carer) have completed the enquiry form and submitted it online, you will get a “thank-you for your enquiry” screen which you can choose to print or have sent in an email. The screen will then provide you with some key information including timescales and confirmation of the information you have submitted. You will be advised that “a leader will be in touch by 21 days.” If there are spaces available, then the leader will contact you inviting your daughter to a meeting. If your daughter chooses to stay in the Unit, the leader will ensure that the “Welcome to Guiding” forms are completed to collect all the relevant information on your daughter, i.e., additional needs, allergies, gift aid and photographs.
